Bark-tanning is a unique hide tanning method which uses the tannins in plant material to transform animals skins – whether land mammal or marine life. Hide soak in a solution of tannins and the mixture is agitated and added to throughout the process.
This is the precursor to industrial chromium-tanned leather. It creates a natural leather with no off-gassing or harmful byproducts. The leather quality can be made soft or firm, pliable or rigid.
This workshop varies from 4 days over 2 weekends to a once-a-week drop in. Participants will learn how to make high quality, thorough leather with consistent colouring and water resistance.
